Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I get forms for registration?
A: Step-by-step instructions for the school registration process have been posted in the School Registration section under the Sponsors tab. If you are a student whose school is not currently attending Walker Model Congress, please refer to the Individual Delegate Registration section under the Delegates tab.
Q: Our school does not have a Model Congress club. Can we still attend?
A: Of course! Schools do not need to have an official Model Congress student organization to attend Walker Model Congress. In the past, we have had schools send students in their American government classes (this, however, does not mean that enrollment in such a course is necessary to be successful at WMC) or those who are members of their Model UN teams. Many of these students have been very successful in the past.
Q: My school is not sending a delegation to WMC, but I would like to attend independently. Can I still attend?
A: Absolutely! Please refer to the Individual Delegate Registration section under the Delegates tab.
Q: What grade level do students need to be in to participate?
A: WMC welcomes students from all grades 6-12.
Q: May sponsors observe their delegates in committees?
A: Absolutely! Sponsors are welcome to attend the committee sessions, caucuses and full House/Senate sessions. There will be designated seating for sponsors who wish to observe. However, sponsors will also need to attend three sponsor meetings during the conference. Each meeting will last approximately 30 minutes. Outside of these meetings, sponsors are welcome and encouraged to observe their delegates in action!
Q: How many delegates can a school send?
A: Schools may send as many delegates as they wish. There is no minimum or maximum, although two to three delegates minimum is requested.
Q: Can I get hotel accommodations?
A: Yes! Although we prefer for Sponsors to arrange reservations directly with hotels, we do have a list of approximate prices for nearby hotels under the Hotel Information under the Sponsors tab.
Q: How much do hotel accommodations cost?
A: Hotel accommodations depend on many factors, although approximate prices are included in the list.
Q: What will students need to prepare prior to the conference?
A: In November, we will post background guides for each topic on the committee pages on the WMC website. Delegates in House and Senate committees are required to submit bills prior to the conference, and Special committee delegate preparation varies from committee to committee. Please check your committee's page for more information.
Q: How are committees assigned, and may I have multiple delegates from my school in a committee?
A: After your school submits the second step of school registration (Committee Requests and T-shirt Size Form), then we will email you back shortly with committee slots, which you may assign to your delegates how you see fit. Although we try to accommodate requests as much as possible, in some cases we may be unable to do so. Once you have made these assignments, we ask that you send us the names of the delegates you have assigned to each committee so that we can print placards for the conference.
Q: Is age a factor when assigning committees to delegates?
A: Yes! One of the new changes we are making this year is separating committees by age. We understand that it can be intimidating for middle schoolers to be in the same committee as high schoolers, especially if it is their first conference experience. Therefore, House committees will comprise of only middle schoolers and Senate committees will consist of only high schoolers. Special committees are opening to all grades.
Q: Will food be provided at the conference?
A: Although we will not be providing any meals on Friday, we will provide breakfast, lunch, and a snack on Saturday.
